About Becky
Becky Staden is an upcoming professional in the equestrian industry, specializing in three day eventing. She operates and owns Staden Equestrian, a small and devoted business providing coaching, training, and sales. Primarily servicing the west side of Calgary, Alberta, Canada and the Bow Valley, she is based out of Alborak Stable with Canadian Olympian Sandra Donnelly. While Becky actively pursues the upper levels of eventing, she has also developed a deep and affinity for developing young horses and pairing them with an appropriate partner, ensuring success. Whether its their first rides or first competitions, she has successfully brought up many young prospects. World renowned colt starter Jose Alejos has claimed she is one of the top two young professionals in Canada for young horses.
Becky has been riding her whole life, beginning at her uncle’s farm and progressing from recreational riding to competitive eventing which she has been involved in for the last 15 years. At sixteen, she worked for Canadian advanced rider Rebecca Lee, before moving to Virginia, USA, at eighteen, where she was a working student for Rolex Kentucky and Burghley winner, Stephen S Bradley in 2013. Now during the winter months, Becky rides with Jennifer and Jonathan Holling, both renowned team members and three day event riders based out of Ocala, Florida.
Becky is a recognized licensed Equine Canada coach and continuously furthers her education. She was a member of Springbank Pony Club from 2006-2012, as well as the Alberta High Performance Eventing team. Becky loves coaching and passing her knowledge onto the next generation of equestrians, on and off the horse. From the ‘up downs’ to the determined competitor, she wants to ensure that each of her students leave the ring feeling like they are taking a positive lesson away with them. Becky also received a Bachelor of Arts specializing in Sociology, which has further helped her understand importance of the relationship between horse and rider and legitimizing the sport in a fun and accessible way. She plans to pursue a Masters of Psychology in Counselling at a later date.
In 2019, Becky brought up her mare ‘Cora’ from a four year old to the preliminary and CCI** level. They finished 18th out of 45 in their first CCIL in Ocala, Florida. She then brought up her and Sandra Donnelly’s ‘Imastar.’ Becky had Star since 30 days under saddle, and in 2023, completed three FEIs at the two star level, notably finishing 7th at Aspen Horse Trials in the CCI**S. The pair attended the 2023 Canadian Team Training Camp in Ocala, Florida and rode with Jonelle Price, the current ranked world number two. She now campaigns her own Bearcat, who is ready to debut into the FEI ring in the fall of 2024. She has had Bear since he was just 60 days undersaddle.
Becky is also the Clinics Chair for the Alberta Horse Trials Association.
When Becky is not spending her time with horses, you can find her in the mountains either big mountain skiing or rock climbing.
